The economy has been hard on everyone.

I am totally stealing this idea for a story sometime.

happy thanksgiving, hope you grab and gobble all day. i took that photo at a grocery store last year btw

im gonna celebrate it with just my dad. my dad is so fed up with my aunt treating us like shit so lol. we usually buy all the food, cook it, drag it to their yuppie house thats like 45 minutes away, and let them keep about 75% of the leftovers. then after we eat i usually just sit there for hours and end up having to fix their computer because theyre fucking retarded. and when they do the cooking for once its fucking terrible. they overcook it and never spice anything. yuck.

also sorry for updating so much, i have a lot to say lately i guess

got my ct scan done. the barium liquid i had to drink wasnt too bad this time, but the contrast fluid IV they gave me made me smell weird things and made my crotch feel really warm. its crazy. i also had to get a blood test before hand to check my creatine level. good times.

also going through some dumb personal drama right now. just because im someones friend does not mean i have to put up with their shit. until they are ready to discuss their major problem with me without being ridiculous, then i really dont have much to say. i already admitted my 'motive' for doing it, now quit twisting it around to make it sound like i was being malicious.

and heres some padding:

I wonder why exactly I'm putting myself through all this.

Is it really worth the exhaustion, the stress, and the strained emotions?

I've got to keep thinking so.

You know how sometimes people on your friendslist post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when were they working THERE? Since when were they dating HIM/HER? Since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you should already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.

Please copy the topics below, erase my answers and put yours in their place, and then post it in your journal! Please elaborate on the questions that would benefit from elaboration. One-Word-Answers seldom help anyone out. (:

A Quick Guide to Stupid Hats

  • Nov. 22nd, 2009 at 12:18 PM
So, uh.

Is this a joke? I kind of thought it was for the first minute, because the voice-over announcer has such a melodramatic voice that I keep expecting him to launch into that "In a world..." bit that you hear in all action movie trailers.

For those of you not watching, it's apparently a trailer for a documentary on that idiot tea party phenomenom that's been going on. Although "phenomenom" isn't really the right word, since it's more of a top-down orchestrated movement of a few wankers than any sort of massive grass roots swell. So I know that people make documentaries about all sorts of weird things (one of my favorite docs was about how New Orleans was trying to train chefs to make gourmet meals out of nutria to give people a reason to kill them - the nutria, I mean - and thus help control the population) but how could you make a whole documentary about something as dull and inconsequential as this? Well, since it's apparently a PRO tea party documentary, you pretend that these colonial LARPers are REAL AMERICAN HEROES and the SECOND AMERICAN REVOLUTION. Haha, no really, they use the term SECOND AMERICAN REVOLUTION to describe them. Really.

It's not like I took these guys seriously to begin with, but seeing the dudes in old timey tricorner hats killed any last shred of credibility. I make it a point to ignore the political opinions of anyone who wears either a tricorner hat or a fedora. You know why? Becuase the only people who wear tricorner hats or fedoras are idiots. Without exception. Go to your local farmer's market or swapmeet and you'll find some old fat guy in suspenders and a tricorner hat trying to get you to take the world's smallest political quiz. The idea they want to convey is that the founding fathers would have approved of their political ideas, but, honestly, who gives a shit? I sure don't care what Bill Hancock would have thought of health care. If he's so smart, who is he dead, huh? Huh???

Fedoras are somewhat less associated specifically with libertarian idiocy and more just a general idiot hat. People who wear fedoras are always fat gerasy nerds with long greasy hair and greasy little goattees who think that wearing a stupid hat somehow elevates them above the general nerd fray into some sort of semblance of cool. Fedora guys are just like Corey Feldman - they're people who are obsessed with the outer trappings of cool, who think that changing their wardrobe rather than their attitude is the key to coming as a suave and sophsiticated. Fedora guys are without exception pompous blowhards who like to hear themselves talk. They all have stupid ideas that are not worth listening to. This goes double if they wear a trenchcoat or fingerless weight lifting gloves.

I occasionally wear fingerless gloves, but I wear woolly hobo/chimneysweep gloves which I bought back when I used to slave away bob Cracthitt-like in the bowels of that unheated newspaper building in the dead of winter and I needed my fingertips free for typing. That makes me COOL.

Oh, yeah, I got off on a tangent. Here's the video:

Starchaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaser

  • Nov. 21st, 2009 at 3:17 AM
Oh, man, I totally forgot about this film! I saw it in high school on late night TV and always thought it was just the weirdest thing. It's one of those "adult" sci fi animations that were in vogue from the late 70s to the mid 80s, from the time period that gave us "Heavy Metal" and "Rock and Rule." I've always thought this one kind of felt like a cross between "Heavy Metal" and "Light Years." It's actually quite a bit duller than I remember, but worth seeing as a relic of its day: the TOTALLY 80s soundtrack, the obvious Star Wars rip-off plot, and - most importantly - the fumbling attempts to cram sexy robots in to convince the audience that THIS AIN'T NO KID'S CARTOON!

This is only part 1 but the rest can be found on YouTube. You'll want to watch for the part where Dag the smuggler rewires the lady robot's butt. In fact, the lady robot doesn't really do anything in this film, other than provide a sort of shapely, vaguely humanoid butt to look at. I guess in 1985, back before the Internet, beggars couldn't be choosers.

Squirrel Girl would be proud

  • Nov. 20th, 2009 at 5:36 PM
Caught a squirrel up in my attic room at my parent's house today. Took it to Flushing-Meadow Park and released it there - I figure that's far enough away that it won't come back, and still gives it the best chance of survival.

This is the third squirrel this year. At least this one was alive. It was also the most destructive, leaving lots of evidence of its raiding. I really wish my father would get the hole in the roof I discovered fixed so no more break in.

On a very slightly related note, a few days ago I saw the South Park "Starvin Marvin" episode for the first time, and watched the residents get attacked by killer turkeys, until they fight back and kill them all.

The next day, the front cover of NY Newsday announced an emergency turkey hunting season in Suffolk County because of repeated attacks by a booming population of wild turkeys. Life imitating Art?

Okay, so anyone that knows me knows two things:

1) I don't have an appetite, so i will often not eat merely becuase i don't think about it
and
2) i gain weight when i don't eat or when stressed.

I have to schedule my eating. Especially now, when i REALLY don't feel like eating. So i am eating regularly, and i'm sleeping, and i'm getting exercise and blowing off steam where i can... I was not at an unhealthy weight before.

The clothing i bought on saturday doesn't fit right now... and those are in small.

i've lost 20 pounds in 6 days.

i'm still in a healthy range, but i haven't weighed this little since highschool at 112. Yesterday i was 117. The day before 120.

If this pattern keeps continuing, and i dip below 105, i'm going to start freaking out.

What the hell could be happening here?! Thoughts? Support?

Levi Stubbs' tears

  • Nov. 19th, 2009 at 12:04 AM
Wow, there's "Little Shop of Horrors" fanfic online. The slash fic pairing Steve Martin's sadistic dentist and Bill Murray's masochistic patient would seem to be par for the course, but it tends to be a little gooey for my taste. It's all coy smiles and impish grins and OH NO WHAT IS THIS FEELING THAT I'VE NEVER FELT BEFORE.

I'm kind of disappointed by how little of it has to do with Audrey II, with whom I've become reobsessed since seeing that shitty cartoon the other day. I loved the 86 film as a kid, and rewatching it now I'm really impressed with just how good that plant puppet is. Also Levi Stubbs' voice is delicious. Oh God so gay for Levi Stubbs.

But you know what's even better than Levi Stubbs as Audrey II? Levi Stubbs as Mother Brain.
